The lowdown on business security

The lowdown on business security

Blog

When running a business, most owners tend to focus their time and effort on freeing up cashflow, staffing issues, day to day operations and keeping their heads above water.

Business security is often something that is overlooked or pushed to the bottom of the to-do list, despite it being one of the top ways a business can be ruined in a matter of seconds.

For many businesses, not giving priority to their security can be hugely problematic. Theft of sensitive documents, or damaged property as a result of a break-in will spell disaster. And to make matters worse, they will often be very costly to resolve.

Implementing security measures that suit your business should be one of your main priorities but can seem overwhelming if you don’t know where to start.

What security measures can you take to protect your business? What are the best alarms out there? And how much does good protection cost?

A few of the different types…

CCTV Systems

A professionally installed CCTV system can not only act both as a powerful deterrent but can also provide vital evidence, against people that commit crimes such as fly tipping, burglary, theft, vandalism and assault, increasing the rate of conviction.

HD CCTV can be used to protect valuable property, grounds and machinery: - including Schools, Government buildings, Retail stores, Distribution Centres, FitnessCentres, Gyms, Care homes and Offices

Access control

Access control systems are connected together to form a network of Doors, Barriers/ Gates linking back to a central computer for easy management and control of a system. Once an access control system is installed, all doors controlled by the system will automatically lock when the door is closed. Anyone without a PIN or access token is unable to enter.

An access control system comprises of several parts, including:

Intruder alarms

A burglar alarm system consists of a series of electrical components that are connected to a property.

Via sensors and contacts, they detect movement or the opening of doors and windows, after which a loud alarm is produced to alert those nearby of the unauthorised entry.

Often deemed to be a security essential, these systems are a universal fixture of most premises.

All installed components, including sensors, are linked to a control panel. Users both activate and deactivate the alarm system using this panel, either by using a fob or a numbered code.

Smart phones can also now be used to remotely set and unset alarms via apps.

The system is connected to an external bell or siren which is usually located on a wall on the outside of the property. It is this device that emits an alarm to alert people to an intrusion.

There is also an internal sounder to alert any occupants of the building that there has been a detected event, and this also acts to deter the intruder.
